GIMP is a great and FREE image editor, but the default when you first install it is to have a bunch of windows open all over your Desktop. Some people may be fine with that, but many others, especially Windows users, find it confusing and/or distracting. Recent versions of GIMP now include an option to enable "Single-Window Mode", which many users (including me) prefer. It's really easy to do -- simply follow these instructions (in pictures):
